Traditional Brokerage Services

Traditional brokerage refers to full service brokerage, the standard business model in the industry until 1975, when fixed brokerage rates were discontinued. This business practice continues, providing clients with assistance with their investment concern, with commissioned salespeople. The salespeople are paid part of the fee from transactions (commissions) for assisting clients with their dealing with the company and the industry.

Traditional brokerage is the place where many people start their investment experience because they need the assistance of a competent representative to assist and explain how the investment markets function and how best the client might participate in the markets. Nestlerode & Loy, Inc., assists clients through its representatives by providing educational brochures, investment research from various published investment advisors, quotes and other services.

Rates

Full Service Rate Schedule

Nestlerode & Loy, Inc., has a number of commissioned sales representatives. They earn their living by assisting investors with their investment transactions. To this end they can analyze your financial situation and make appropriate recommendations aimed at assisting you in achieving your financial goals. Of course, no one can guarantee investment results. However, investors are usually well served by dealing with an investment professional for their transactions, receiving recommendations and having their account serviced. The cost of doing business is one concern, but not the primary consideration voiced by investors when dealing with a brokerage industry. A study by the survey firm Yankelovich Partners, completed in 1995 for the Securities Industry Association, found that clients believed that the following factors, in order of importance, were more influential than cost in determining the brokerage firm with which they would deal:

  1. Providing easy access to client account information.
  2. Keeping clients' best interest at heart in making or suggesting investments.
  3. Returning calls promptly.
  4. Maintaining a track record of strong performance.
  5. Keeping clients regularly informed about their investment performance.

Fees and commissions ranked sixth in the study. Even in sixth place, however, fees are important to investors. Therefore, we have provided a summary of our full service fee schedule for your review.

The commission table below is a summary of our full service rate table which is many pages long. If you have a question about what a specific transaction will cost, you can get the exact information from your representative or anyone at Nestlerode & Loy, Inc. Just call us, email us, or send us a request via fax.

A majority of our income as a full service brokerage firm and the income for our representatives is derived from commissioned transactions. We do not recommend that clients make small transactions or that they trade often. We recommend that clients make transactions that have relatively small commissions on a percentage of the total transaction. For example, the commission on a one hundred share trade at $20.00 per share or $2,000 is $62 or about 3.1% of the money invested. Further, 1,000 shares of a $100 stock would cost $874 or .874% or less than one percent of the money invested.

Your representative can analyze the cost of doing full service transactions with our firm to make sure that the cost of your transactions is reasonable and not preclude you from achieving your investment goals.

Mutual fund transactions costs, commonly called sales charges, are set by agreement between the mutual fund marketing organization and Nestlerode & Loy, Inc. Mutual funds generally charge the same sales charges to every brokerage firm. As with stock transactions, we will discuss the sales charge and any other cost related to buying and holding mutual funds before any purchase or sale. Any investor should read the prospectus carefully before investing. Likewise sales charges for annuities will be fully disclosed before any transaction is completed.

Finally, we exist to serve your investment needs. While many people prefer to deal with us as a full service brokerage firm, others who do their own investment research choose to use our discount brokerage service. Still others utilize our investment management services. Clients are encourage to select the way to deal with us that serves them best. Indeed, some clients use both full service and discount brokerage while others have managed portfolios and trade either full service or discount for other accounts under their control. Our job is to make our investment services work for you. Please let us know how we can serve you best. Further information on discount brokerage and investment management is available on this web site.

Sales or transaction charges for mutual fund purchases are governed by the selling agreement between the mutual fund distributor and Nestlerode & Loy, Inc. All mutual fund fees (including sales charges, 12b-1 fees and contingent deferred sales charges) are described in the mutual fund prospectus and are available from all our representatives upon request. As a full service brokerage firm, the company does not deal in no load funds.

Commission rates for municipal bonds, government bonds and corporate bonds available upon request.
